Shortly after founding the Joan Rose Foundation it became extremely apparent that if we were going to help our children long term we needed to stabilize their households and to stabilize their household we needed to employ their mothers. We heard about needlepoint products being handmade and expensive and they seemed like the perfect choice. We taught some of our parents how to needlepoint and started out just making belts. We give the parents all the materials and design and then pay them for the finished piece of needlepoint. Good Threads has outgrown the Joan Rose Foundation and now employs well over 1500 Haitians in the Jacmel area. In 2023 Good Threads donations accounted for 40% of the Joan Rose Foundation Budget.
