This summer has been full of activities and learning opportunities for our students. All of our children were involved in either classes or camp. We sent a majority of our kids to their school, Kay Mere, for a summer camp that taught art projects, science projects, and more. Our oldest students continued to take classes at the school three days a week, while our youngest students received lessons at the JRF.

Once classes concluded in August, we spent two weeks taking our children on field trips and offering alternative activities at the JRF. We visited a local birth center, fire station, art gallery, airport, police station, vetiver distillery, hydroelectric dam, and water processing business. Our children really enjoyed these trips and became more interested in one day pursuing some of these careers. At the JRF, we spent some time doing fun art projects and spent two days jamming on percussion instruments with a local musician.

About 25 kids have been working hard on their dance routines for the past nine months. They had their first recital at the end of July and they put on an excellent performance. We continue to value dance as an extracurricular activity because we know it’s a great outlet and encourages discipline and confidence.

SCHOOL YEAR 2017-2018

Most recently, we have been very busy preparing our students for the school year. Students have been able to purchase book bags and school shoes by using their earned points, and we’ve continued to purchase books. We’ve accepted nine new students into our program since this summer, as well as collaborated with the school to start a scholarship program that expands our services. We will talk more about these advancements and more in our next update.
